The New Standard of Clean

Fighting bacteria and more with Microban

Cargo protection is key when it comes to hauling refrigerated goods, especially now with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rule on the Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food. The goal is to prevent food safety risks such as failure to properly refrigerate food, inadequate cleaning of vehicles between loads and failure to protect food during transportation. Equipment plays an essential role in meeting the new standards, and it starts with specifying the right reefer trailer.

When hauling sensitive food products, cross-contamination is a real concern. To help haulers combat contamination, Great Dane has partnered with Microban International to provide a broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection, Microban, to its PunctureGuard and ThermoGuard reefer linings. This antimicrobial protection is not only exclusive in Great Dane's Everest reefer series, it's standard.

This breakthrough science improves visible and invisible cleanliness of the reefer liner, reduces odors and, ultimately, extends product life for Great Dane customers.

How it Works

The patented Microban technology is built into the Everest's liners during the manufacturing process, resulting in antimicrobial protection for the life of the liner, measured using established international laboratory protocols. The technology does not wash off or wear away and helps provide ongoing protection against the growth of bacteria that can cause stains, odors and product degradation.

Innovative and Technological Solutions

The addition of Microban antimicrobial technology is part of Great Dane's overall effort to give its customers innovations and technological solutions.

"Our customers have come to expect that Great Dane offers the most technologically advanced products on the market," said Brandie Fuller, vice president of Marketing at Great Dane. "The partnership with Microban, in addition to other Great Dane advances, provides our customers with products that will better prepare them to meet the more stringent standards of the Food Safety Modernization Act."

According to Kevin Parrish, senior vice president at Microban International, "The inclusion of Microban antimicrobial technology in Great Dane liners is an ideal application that will ultimately lead to the development of cleaner food storage and transport equipment. We are excited to launch this partnership with Great Dane, a recognized leader in the trucking industry."

Great Dane liners featuring Microban protection are now available on new orders for the company's refrigerated trailers and truck bodies.
