Great Dane's Dry Freight Van Series Is a Champion of the Road

New standards for strength, durability and ease of maintenance raise the bar on quality and value

LOUISVILLE, KY –Capitalizing on a century of innovation, research and engineering experience, Great Dane takes another giant leap forward in the marketplace with its newest generation of trailers. The longtime industry leader has completely redesigned its entire product line to meet the evolving needs of its customers by incorporating state-of-the-art technology, materials and features into its base models. Trailers representing each of Great Dane's new streamlined product segments are now on exhibit in Booth #34075 at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., including the flagship of the dry freight market, the all new Champion.

This best-ever series of dry freight vans was engineered by Great Dane to be highly versatile and equally tough, providing unparalleled performance and exceptional value to the customer. Each Champion model has standard features that boldly stand up to the challenges of everyday abuse and result in reduced maintenance costs, long service life and a solid return on investment. The Champion SE model offers quality design and heavy-duty productivity for fleets that mean business; the CL can be highly specified for a variety of hauling applications; and the CP boasts Great Dane's proven composite panel technology.

A noticeable improvement on all Champion models is Great Dane's new standard dry van rear frame, EnduroGuard, which combines superior strength with corrosion resistance to withstand the elements and last a lifetime. The strongest in the industry, extruded aluminum bottom rails are securely fastened with aluminum rivets to I-beam crossmembers. Galvanized steel, anti-snag roof bows offer unmatched durability and longevity. Standard composite swing-type rear doors with dual-seal gaskets have galvanized steel skins and a resilient polymer core, which eliminate corrosion associated with moisture absorption in plywood cores.

Available in aluminum and stainless steel exteriors, composite panel designs, FRP and insulated models, and shallow or deep drop configurations for high-cube hauling applications, Champion dry freight vans offer the versatility to serve all types of operations.

All Great Dane trailers, including Champion freight vans, now come with Stemco's Platinum Performance Plus wheel end system backed by an extended six-year warranty. Grote Micro Nova DOT LED lamps improve visibility and safety for drivers. And Great Dane's Long Life Light System combines the flexibility of a custom wiring system with the durability of a fully sealed modular harness. The Long Life Light System is truly a maintenance free solution, which prevents moisture intrusion and comes with a ten-year warranty.

One of the available options for Champion CP is a lightweight package that incorporates a heavy-duty base rail with a lighter weight side panel and is designed specifically for floor loading operations, such as in the beverage industry. The Champion show trailer on display in Great Dane's booth is a 53-ft. version with the lightweight package. The 21-inch high bottom rail adds rigidity, reducing sidewall bulging and damage to composite walls. The lightweight package also features a composite frontwall design, aluminum crossmembers, and other weight savings options.

Composite panels for the Champion model are manufactured using a unique synthesis of proven techniques and the highest design standards in the industry. Completely smooth interior walls withstand repeated snagging of cargo and inevitable forklift damage, resulting in a reduction in maintenance time and expense. A laminated hardwood floor reinforced with a composite underlayer rated for up to 24,000-lb. and ALCOA aluminum wheels are additional examples of durable but weight-saving options on the Great Dane display van.

The undercarriage and support gear of the Champion CP show trailer is also armed with CorroGuard, the key component in Great Dane's comprehensive corrosion prevention package. CorroGuard was developed specifically for trailer underbody protection from rock and stone impingement, de-icing chemicals and road hazards.

MATS attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the Great Dane's all-new innovative product line, including Champion dry freight vans, by consulting with engineering, sales and executive staff who will be available during tradeshow hours March 22 - 24.
