Great Dane Showcases Flatbeds at 2014 Great American Trucking Show
Wide range of standard and optional trailer features on display

DALLAS, TX – (August 21, 2014) Great Dane is proudly showcasing its entire series of hard-working Freedom flatbed trailers as well as a prototype Everest reefer optimized for truckload operations at the 2014 Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas. From August 21st – 23rd, attendees visiting booth #16136 will have a chance to interact with Great Dane product experts and see many of the company's innovative trailers in-person.

With a focus on flatbeds at this year's show, Great Dane is highlighting the many standard and optional features in its flatbed trailer line that make them adaptable to a wide range of demanding applications. Featured in the booth will be three flatbed trailers including an all-aluminum Freedom XP model, an all-steel 53' tri-axle Freedom SE with a rolling tailpipe optimized for oil field use, and a 48' Freedom LT hybrid aluminum/steel flatbed trailer outfitted with Great Dane's optional CorroGuard protective undercoating, now available on select Great Dane flatbed models.

Other optional features showcased in this year's flatbed show models include thicker main beams and extra crossmembers for added strength and durability, dunnage racks, storage/tool boxes and a variety of helpful load securement enhancements. Also featured will be an optional Hendrickson® TIREMAXX Pro tire inflation system and Great Dane's trailer "Appearance Package" that substantially enhances the visual appeal of the company's aluminum and combo flatbeds.

As a part of Great Dane's ongoing efforts to the lower the weight of its reefers, this year's GATS reefer trailer is a specially built Everest TL prototype with design advances that reduce the trailer's weight to less than 12,000 lbs. This notable goal was achieved through extensive R&D involving new extrusion designs and a state-of-the-art foaming process that enhances thermal efficiency, trailer strength and ease of repair. The Everest TL show trailer eliminates wood components, and also features Great Dane's patented ThermoGuard lining in the reefer's floors, walls and ceiling. It also features a PunctureGuard bonded scuffband, Hendrickson's latest ULTRAA-K air slider suspension, Bridgestone® Ecopia tires, Accuride aluminum disc wheels and Great Dane's exclusive CorroGuard undercoating. The reefer will also contain interactive display kiosks highlighting the benefits of ThermoGuard lining through hands-on demos and an iPad presentation app.

The Freedom Flatbed Series

Offered in a wide range of configurations, the Freedom flatbed series has been engineered to meet stringent standards, resulting in increased strength, durability and reliable load securement. Freedom flatbed trailers have earned a reputation across North America for boosting payload capacities and having significant resale values

Great Dane's all-aluminum Freedom XP trailer weighs in at just 8,200 lbs. when equipped with aluminum wheels, making it nearly 1,000 lbs. lighter than a comparable combination steel/aluminum trailer. Rated to handle 60,000 lb. loads concentrated in four feet and up to 120,000 lbs. of uniform distributed loads, the Freedom XP maximizes payload versatility. This model is available in 48- and 53-ft. lengths and is equipped with a full-length built-in sliding winch track.

The Freedom SE is a heavy-duty, all-steel trailer with available straight, drop or extendable body styles. This workhorse is also a corrosion-buster with structural steel side rails and other steel components that are shot blasted then protected with a high quality two-part paint process composed of an epoxy primer and black urethane topcoat. New for 2014, this model and the Freedom LT are both now available with CorroGuard protective undercoating.

The Freedom LT combo steel and aluminum trailer is exceptionally lightweight, but built for performance with unique features that offer weight savings and reduced maintenance costs. For many operators, it's the perfect balance between all-steel and all-aluminum trailers.

Additional examples of highlighted features in the company's flatbed trailer line include:

  • Full-length one-piece main beam web construction with pass-through crossmembers on the company's all-steel SE and hybrid LT flatbeds to optimize strength.
  • Great Dane's Model 65 support gear, which features a 65,000 lift capacity and a constant mesh gear box for smooth operation.
  • Standard 6-Year Stemco Platinum Performance Plus Wheel End System, which includes Guardian HP Oil Seals, PRO-TORQ Spindle Nuts and Integrated Sentinel Hub Caps.
  • Dependable Grote MicroNova® Dot 100% LED lamps and a maintenance-free, fully modular and sealed Long-Life Lighting System covered by a ten-year warranty.
  • Multiple cargo securement options, including pop-up chains and winches that can be mounted beneath or recessed into side rails, or on sliding tracks mounted to the underside of the crossmembers.
  • Webb Vortex Outboard Drums with lightweight cast construction that allows wheel-ends to run cooler, lowering operating costs.
